The SMART Spelling Approach

Teachers love it because it is sensible and schools love it because it is systematic.

When I was a classroom teacher, I felt very underprepared by my formal university qualifications to teach spelling. I was thoroughly confused about blends, silent letters, graphemes and don’t get me started on all the spelling rules!!!

Well now I know better.

I developed a sensible way to teach spelling.  It’s called ‘The SMART Spelling Approach’.  Teachers love it because it makes sense and is ‘doable’ in a classroom. Schools love it because it’s systematic.

SMART Spelling is a structured, multi sensory approach that caters for different levels of spelling ability in one class.

There is the SMART Spelling Manual and the one day course.   The manual clearly outlines a Prep – 6 scope and sequence for teaching spelling and includes the teaching of word families, common words and personal words.  It gives the teacher a way to explicitly teach: sound – letter links (The Alphabetic Principle), syllables, the 44 different sounds and their most common spelling patterns.

I will show you how to...

  • implement a weekly routine for teaching spelling
  • teach both intentionally and incidentally – at the point of need
  • differentiate spelling words…easily!!!
  • teach the most effective 4 spelling rules
  • understand the Prep – 6 scope and sequence
  • teach with a range of fun spelling activities
  • download free digital materials that will save you time
  • use your copy of the SMART Spelling manual (valued at $88 that you get for FREE)
  • cure the dreaded teacher-strain of Monday-itis…forever!
